Columbus School of Practical Nursing
The Columbus School of Practical Nursing is a 12-month, daytime program that provides an efficient and cost-effective way for students to gain the skills necessary to work in a healthcare setting. STNA certification is not required for admission. With 66 years of excellence in nursing education, our graduates have a high rate of success on the state board examination and are highly sought after by employers. Our program is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education and approved by both the Ohio Board of Nursing and Department of Higher Education.
Classes take place at 2323 Lexington Avenue in Columbus, OH with clinical sites throughout the area. The hours are 8 am – 3:30 pm Monday through Friday with some clinical days beginning at 7 am. Tuition is $15,900 for the full program and does not include books or uniforms. Financial aid may be available for those who qualify.

- Composite score of 75% on the HESI Entrance Exam in one exam session
- Average score of 75% in the following 4 sections: Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Grammar, Math, and Reading Comprehension

Academia Medical Institute
The Practical Nursing Education program offered by the Academia Medical Institute is a 12-month curriculum designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and competently care for clients of all ages in a variety of healthcare settings. Throughout their training, students are supervised by qualified faculty as required by Ohio Administrative Code 4723-5-11. The program consists of three components: theoretical/classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and clinical experience.
The faculty at AMI believe in providing high-quality nursing education that will prepare graduates who are responsive to emerging healthcare needs and future trends. During their studies, students learn about critical thinking, communication, professional behaviors, and caring interventions for individualized holistic management of care with an emphasis on safety and efficiency. They also gain knowledge about relevant evidence-based practices. All course content is delivered according to Ohio Administrative Code 4723-5-14.
Throughout the program learners are expected to demonstrate mature conduct that reflects an understanding of ethical conduct, personal responsibility and accountability for their actions. Faculty encourages life-long learning practices which will help graduates continue their professional development well after they have completed the program.
Admission Requirements
Requirements for program registration:
- Registration fee of $100 must be paid upon completion of the application online.
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States and residents of Ohio.
- Applicants must provide documentation of graduation from high school in the form of a valid high school diploma, transcript or other acceptable documentation issued by an authorized state education agency. International transcripts/documents must be evaluated by a third-party evaluator for equivalency.
- Applicants must pass the ATI TEAS Pre-entrance exam with a score of 48% or HESI Entrance Exam with a composite score of 70%. Entry Exams must be within a 2-year period from the date taken the test.
- After acceptance, students are required to provide documentation of the following items prior to the start of the clinical externship:
- Completed background checks for both BCI and FBI (using code: 4723.09).
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Healthcare Provider-Basic Life Support (BLS) completion certificate.
- A current physical examination record by a licensed healthcare provider (no older than 1 year).
- A screening for TB test prior to the start of the Clinical Site Visit. Testing must be done within one year before beginning the program and again before beginning clinical rotations.

Felbry College
Felbry College’s Practical Nursing program provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Ohio. The curriculum focuses on the biological, physical, social, behavioral, and technological sciences and includes courses on microbiology, nutrition, pharmacology, nursing process and critical thinking. Additionally, upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a diploma in practical nursing.
Graduates must then pass the NCLEX-PN exam in order to obtain their professional license. With this license they can provide safe interventions that support health maintenance and restoration while also caring for people of diverse socio-cultural backgrounds across the lifespan. They must practice within ethical and legal boundaries as a professional nurse as well as demonstrate behaviors that reflect the values of care-giving such as effective communication with clients/families and other members of the healthcare team.
